BECOMING THE BEST PARENT YOU CAN BE

In-Depth Parent Education and Support

As a member of the Sequoia District Adult School, CPNS offers monthly workshops in child development and early childhood education, plus hands-on experience and coaching in the classroom. In addition, parents have almost unlimited access to a child development expert who knows both you and your child and can offer skilled advice and answer your parenting and education questions.

A Community, Not Just A School

Our community is made up of like-minded parents who consciously decide to be actively involved in their children's education, and commit themselves to give their talents and their time.

In this busy Bay Area, families are often juggling many different things. It's easier when you have a strong network or community to rely on. These families will be your friends—and your child’s friends—for years to come.

CPNS Vision

For children

CPNS is a doing place with a variety of age-appropriate activities going on simultaneously. Children can move freely throughout the school, choosing their own activities and setting their own pace. Our priority is to help each child develop life skills, a positive self-image, social skills, emotional regulation, and physical coordination because we believe these are fundamental to personal success and academic achievement.

For parents

CPNS is a sharing place that provides opportunities for mutual support and the exchange of information. Our goal is to help parents improve their communication skills and to broaden their knowledge in order to meet the emotional, physical, social, and intellectual needs of family members.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As an organization, we acknowledge that a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion requires that we continually educate ourselves and our community, embrace challenging conversations, and transform this ideal into action. We hold ourselves accountable by consciously infusing diversity and inclusion in our day-to-day practices and in our decision making processes. We expect this dedication from our school and our community because our children deserve an open and accepting learning environment and to be met with experiences that support joyful engagement with the rich diversity of the world in which we live.

Carlmont Parents Nursery School is committed to becoming an anti-racist, multicultural, inclusive, and affirming organization. We work towards this vision with specific commitments to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Diversity: Our commitment to diversity is being a welcoming place for all families and creating diverse and inclusive learning experiences.

Equity: We review CPNS policies and procedures through an anti-bias lens, being curious and asking questions to ensure that we have all families and voices included. We strive to create equitable and accessible spaces for all children.

Inclusion: All children and families see themselves as part of the community. We create an environment that supports multiple voices and multiple ways to participate.

We recognize that as an educational organization we have a role in not only children’s lives and early learning but also how children see themselves reflected in the school and the greater community context in which they live. Our philosophy of learning together is reflected in this commitment. One way that we learn together is by collectively eliciting diverse approaches, and opinions and encouraging dialogue especially when there are conflicts and differences. We do not make assumptions that every child/family is the same; whether it is socioeconomic background, composition, race/ethnic/cultural identity, language, color, creed, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, size or health needs. Our community is weaved together by people of diverse abilities, needs, backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. We strive to see and appreciate all differences and commonalities among each member of our community, value their varied contributions to our school, take time to learn from one another, and allow for all families to find belonging here.

We are intentional about actively practicing these commitments in ways such as: a curriculum shaped by family traditions, advertising the possibility for financial assistance so all can benefit from our programming, partnering with aides or therapists on a child’s support team, providing accommodations individually as needed and an annual multicultural potluck during our Winter Celebration.

Carlmont Parents Nursery School admits students of any race, color, ethnic and national origin to all programs and activities made available to families at our school. CPNS does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, age, ethnic or national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in administration of our policies and programs.
